My 2.5 year old just LOVES this book! He is 1/2 Indian (my side) and 1/2 white. Since we live in the Midwest, there isn't a lot of opportunity to expose him to Indian culture, so we have been buying all of the books we can with Indian authors and pertaining to Indian culture. There aren't a lot for toddlers, unfortunately. The 3 CMs are PERFECT PERFECT PERFECT for us! Since he got this book a month ago, we read it at least 4 times a day...sometimes consecutively! I will purchase every single 3 CM book that comes out :)There is plenty of educational material, complete with a glossary in the back, but it's cute, fun, and RELATABLE - even for an America born 1/2 Indian toddler. I am gushing, I know....But thanks to the authors for writing these books and, please, keep them coming!!
Our 5-year-old twin boys are half American, half Indian, and we're doing our best to make them aware and embrace their Indian heritage. This year we decorated our house with colorful lights and diva votives, and the boys really got into it. This book was a Diwali gift we gave them on the night before, and they loved it. This will be something we read again and again over the next few years. Great story, and quality illustrations (my husband is an artist, so that's a very important feature for any children's book)!
Loved this book! Unlike a lot of illustrated children’s books about Indian festivities, this one has a very bright, vibrant and new-age modern feel to it. The characters are very cute and the story keeps kids guessing to the end. Perfect as diwali gifts for kids aged 2-8, and great for the older siblings to read with the little ones. It does have reference to the Hindu Gods Laxmi and Ganesh at the very end, for anyone wondering about that, but the rest revolves around the festivities of Diwali that are pretty much celebrated by all indians regardless of their religion.
The Diwali Gift makes for a perfect picture book for toddlers and read aloud or self read for young readers. The book talks about Diwali in a way that can be related by kids globally. While this is a great book for Indian kids growing outside of India to learn about our culture and rituals, it is not just limited to them. It can be easily read by kids from all around the world and they can learn a bit about Diwali and the Indian rituals around it, just like everyone today knows how to do the christmas tree and line presents around them. The idea of the book is to make Diwali a global mainstream story through the three curious monkeys - Suno, Dekho, Jano and it is certainly does accomplish that very well.Makes for an excellent gift during the festive season, for birthdays and return gifts. Perfect to be read-aloud in a book club for young kids, classrooms and libraries.
Love reading this to my daughter and son. Kindle version is almost as good as the hardback! Great for a quick read.
This is a beautifully written and designed book for young children. There's no fussy language or difficult mythological plot line. Both my 3 and 5-year old could relate to the characters in the book and follow their curiosity. In the process, they learned quite a bit about different Diwali traditions and celebrations. It's great for kids to be able to see themselves and their families in the text and illustrations in this way. There's even a Skype chat with a grandmother!
I enjoyed reading about the antics of the 3 Curious Monkeys in this story about Diwali. I read it to my little girl and her eyes lit up at the sight of the adorable monkeys. The illustrations are wonderful, looking forward to the next book in the series. Great job - Shweta and Shuchi!
Love this book! Perfect for reading to a toddler for Diwali. We have several children's Diwali books and this one is my favorite!
