This is a very decent book which describes the New York Subway and how to navigate it. It's not an atlas nor does it have a map, but it tells you how to interpret the maps (the best being the one handed out at subway stations for the asking.) Navigating the subway takes some getting used to - you will learn quickly about which trains are which, where to find them (and how to find them!) and subway etiquette. Manhattan visitors need not fear using the subway after using this primer - but carry a map with you! Once you know the "secrets" described here (such as the directional signage, destination and line signage), you will find the signage in the system to be easy to navigate with. When you ride, you will quickly see how many people need to read this book! (get out of the way at the top of the stairwells!!)The only thing that kept me from giving it a fifth star was the poor quality of the graphics inside - they are low resolution black and white, which detracts from the overall quality. Still, the information is presented well and organized well.If you're planning on taking any subway trips while visiting NYC, I would highly recommend this practical guide (as well as for those who might be moving into NYC!) to keep you moving through the system!

I am not a big fan of book readers, and I'm glad that Amazon allows people to download the software to their home PC instead. In this case, the five-star recommendation is ONLY for the Kindle edition. It is apparent that the "Look inside" feature shows that the print edition (which I would otherwise have preferred) has only black-&-white graphics, which emphatically does not work for this title!I downloaded the Kindle edition and went through it, and as a former New Yorker and fairly frequent straphanger, I can tell you that Mr. Nguyen is spot on with his information and recommendations. But the colors are an important part of the information and are essential. So please avoid the print edition and go for the digital one, and you will find this very worthwhile.

I really liked this guide. It's very thorough and the pictures add a lot. The only thing that leaves me wondering is that this guide was created in 2013. I really hope it's up to date and not much has changed since then.

This is a must have for everyone that's not familiar with New York! It's concise and easy to understand! Great illustrations

I especially liked the information regarding getting from and to Newark Airport. This book saved us alot of money. The pictures and instructions were clear and the explanations were realistic. The subway isn't perfect and somewhat more difficult than other cities, but it can be fun. I spent time on subways but it was many years ago. This book was spot on!

I have been somewhat anxious about finding my way on the NY subway. This book has been very helpful.

Written in easy to read form. Easy to take notes out of the information. If one has a subway map to view it makes this easier to understand

I like how this guide is detailed on what to watch for and how things look when you get there. I was very hesitant about the subway, but now feel prepared to use the NYC train system.
